Why Hemp?
During the early stages of planning our wedding, John and I set out to create a "Green" wedding. By this, we were going to use all natural fabrics for the wedding attire, use recyled paper, insist on organic food...and the list goes on. It's been tough and we haven't been able to do everything we wanted, so here we wish to pay tribute to the one very worthy fabric that is so elusive we could not include it in our wedding. We will be ever so greatful to any of our guests who wish to include hemp in their attire for our special day. For those of you with raised eyebrows; Sure you could smoke it, but we're talking about industrial hemp, so you won't get high...probably just sick. Industrial hemp is not the same as the marijuana variety, but it is still illegal to grow in the U.S. but that's another blog I'll save for another day.
This is what Utopian Living has to say about "Why Hemp." "Hemp is the most environmentally positive crop, actually improving the condition of the ground. It requires no herbicides and is naturally resistant to insects, fungus, and other pests. It grows rapidly during its vegetative period, becoming tall and thick, shading and mulching the ground and suppressing weeds, while its deep taproots break up and aerate the soil. These attributes promote healthy microbial soil life and leave the ground in a condition where it is easily worked and able to retain moisture during the next season. Hemp provides an ecological alternative to environmentally destructive cotton production and non-renewable, non-biodegradable synthetics."

One interesting fact is that America's Founding Fathers, including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, thought of hemp as no less than another incredibly useful and versatile crop. They grew it. Why can't we?
I agree with you John! If ONLY I could make a drug from cotton.
